Dear Tweeters,
Many thanks again to Marcus Roening for getting the word out--lots of birders enjoyed excellent, close views of the seven Snow Buntings at Fir Island Farm Reserve this afternoon.
In the Reflecting Pool at Fir Island Farm Reserve (AKA Hayton Reserve) was an interesting mixture of waterfowl. Besides a couple of Ruddy Ducks and a pair of Canvasbacks, there was a diving duck that had me and several other birders puzzled. I think it looked more like a female Tufted Duck than anything else. A wispy little tuft was evident only occasionally. The bird was covered in blackish mud most of the time--or perhaps oil? Along with a handful of Greater Scaup, the duck was foraging actively, diving repeatedly. I will put photos on my eBird checklist.
Yours truly,
Gary Bletsch
