I live in San Diego. Like many people during the pandemic, I have become
interested in birds, especially photographing them. My wife and I have gone
out most weekends over the past few months to photograph birds in the San
Diego area, and we have installed bird and hummingbird feeders in our
backyard. However, we are still very much novices.

We are flying to Seattle Saturday, September 5, and plan to spend 2 weeks
driving around Washington. We are primarily interested in photographing
birds and wildlife, especially birds catching prey, such as shorebirds
catching fish or digging up crabs. My dream shot would be a photo of a
raptor diving to the water and grabbing a fish, which is something that
rarely occurs in San Diego.



I would very much appreciate any recommendations you folks can make for
locations to visit. We plan to go to National Wildlife Refuges, such as
Nisqually and Grays Harbor, but I don't know what we can expect to see there
this time of year. Some Facebook friends have taken wonderful eagle photos
at Big Beef Creek at Seabeck and Lake Ki, but I realize this may not be the
right time of year for that. We also plan to visit scenic locations such as
Olympic National Park, North Cascades National Park, Mt. Rainier National
Park, Mt. Baker, and Mt. Saint Helens Volcanic National Monument (all of
which I've been to before), but only if we are able to avoid crowds.
Basically, we plan to go places where there are birds and other wildlife but
not many people.
