I went back with a bigger lens today, found quite a few additional
Greater Yellow Legs plus five other species of sandpiper like birds, one
of which I could ID by sight (Short Billed Dowitchers) and the others I
am scrambling.) These were all working the very shallow water / mud flat
where the larger body of water in KahTai has n intermittent connection
to a small pond, also fresh water, over which connector there i a wooden
bridge. The noteworthy item: I witnessed territorial aggression and
displays between one Yellowlegs and another, likely males. This behavior
included a head lowered - neck extended squawking run by one towards the
other, which run was right through a cluster of assorted other birds,
who paid no attention. The apparent intruder walked out of the water,
which ended the chase. Second time, the intruder made a large circular
flight around the lagoon, and landed back in the grouping of waders but
on the opposite side. Shortly, the aggressor spotted it, and the chase
was on once more. There were perhaps six or seven Greater Yellowlegs
loosely a part of the gaggle of waders, with thirty total birds in an
area about forty feet wide.

My work is now cut out for the rest of the day: ask Pat to help me ID
the other birds, and, sort and cull two hundred images!
