Subject: [Tweeters] Confused Anna's Hummingbird?

I've noticed far more displays of aggression regarding territory than
for courtship and displays can happen at any time of year.

Our favorite native plant at our place is the Twinberry. The hummers
love it and enjoy the little twin yellow flowers for several months as
these plants continue to bloom from April-August. There are several bird
species that really love the berries, at our place Cedar Waxwings and
Purple Finches are the two most commonly seen eating the berries. Well,
eat at your own risk, birds, because the hummingbirds really get
aggressive over their "patch" of 12 plants.

The last flowers have turned to berries at this point, but the hummers
are still spending a lot of time diving down and trying to drive other
hummers away. This morning when I was out in that area, a juvenile male
Anna's was displaying frequently, but was only able to make a tiny sound
at the base of his dive.
