Hi Tweets



I spent most of the day today on Whidbey Island (I know, nuts to go
someplace on Labor Day). Left early and caught the 0700 ferry from Mukilteo
- clear, about 55F but windy and chop. Because they want you to stay in the
car I didn't see anything on the crossing. Ffrom Clinton Beach Park there
were House Sparrow, Song Sparrow, American Crow, Glaucous-winged Gull and
Bonaparte's Gull.



At Deer Lake there was one Canada Goose. When I pulled up at Rollinghill
Road there was a nicely perched Annna's Hummingbird, also Song Sparrow,
Black-capped Chickadee and American Robin.



On the Cultus Bay Rd. pond there were Mallards, a Pied-billed Grebe and a
Great Blue Heron.




>From Dave Mackie Park: American Crow, Glacous-winged Gull, Bonaparte's Gull,

European Starling and Rock Pigeon. 10-15 mph wind from the north had the
water surface choppy.



Along Ewing Road was an American Kestrel, and Osprey.



Sunlight Beach Rd/Deer Lagoon yielded European Starling, Rock Pigeon,
Cooper's Hawk (perched at the end of the road), Osprey (overhead with fish),
several Killdeer on the muddy lagoon, Semi-palmated Plover (several).
Ring-billed Gulls, Mallard, California Gull, Canada Goose (flyover), and
lots of Caspian Terns.



Deer Lagoon from the dike trail had at least 45 White Pelicans, Northern
Pintail, Mallard, Canada Goose, Green-winged Teal, Osprey, Caspian Tern, an
overhead Red-tailed Hawk, Barn Swallow, Northern Shoveler and American
Wigeon.



Crockett Lake was mostly empty mud, but I did see Great Blue Heron, Western
Sandpiper (about 15 birds), flyover Canada Goose, two Pectoral Sandpipers,
three Red Knots (bird of the day) and a Northern Harrier.



At Keystone I saw all three cormorants (Double-crested, Pelagic and
Brandts), Glaucous-winged Gull, American Crow, and European Starling.



Libby Beach: Double-crested Cormorant, Harlequin Duck (one0, Heermann's
Gull, and Red-necked Grebe.



At Bos Lake there were Rewer's Blackbird, two Greater Yellowlegs, Northern
Shoveler, Northern Pintail, Great Blue Heron, Glaucous-winged Gull,
California Gull, Mew Gull, and Heermann's Gull.



Oak Harbor Marina had about 35 Black Turnstones, a few Surfbirds, Rock
Pigeon, Glacous-winged Gull,



On SR20 at Campbell Lake there was one Turkey Vulture overhead.



At Fir Island Farm Reserve it was low tide and windy, but some Mallards,
Ring-billed Gulls, a Great Blue Heron, and a Bald Eagle.



At the Skagit Game Range (hot, about 82F and windy and low tide) there were
a few American Robins, a few Mallards, some Barn Swallows and a single
flighty Greater Yellowlegs.



At locations I didn't put down I saw Common Raven, heard Belted Kingfisher,
and American Goldfinch.



Because traffic mid-day was starting to show signs of getting high I headed
for home - still a decent day (but without almost any small birds because of
the wind) - 49 species.
