Hi Tweeters,

Thinking we could get away from it all by going to the
ocean, we planned a 3-night, 4-day birding trip last week. Our base of
operations was Long Beach, where we stayed in a rented condominium, equipped
with a kitchen, so we didn't have to eat in any restaurant. On the way to
Long Beach, we went to Westport and birded around the marina. It was hot
and windy, but the air quality was OK. On Sept 9, we went to the North Head
Lighthouse. By now the air quality had deteriorated, but it was still hot.
On Thursday, we must have been getting a lot of smoke from Oregon. The sun
had turned into a red penny and there was no wind. All our bird photographs
have a sepia cast. We visited Nahcotta, Leadbetter Point State Park, and
the North Jetty at Cape Disappointment SP. Finally, on Friday, we drove
north to Tokeland to see the Willets. They were there, but again the air
quality wasn't great.

Despite this, we took pictures and I have put together an
album of photos from the trip, in chronological order. We got quite a few
pictures of gulls. I have taken a stab at identifying them, but if any of
you think I have erred, I would be happy to hear from you. The link to the
