Similarly to Mary in Mason County, my backyard bird numbers have
dwindled to nearly nothing and this started at least 3-4 weeks ago,
pre-fire smoke.  Even during hot spells in previous years, I don't
recall this pattern.  I can almost always see at least 12-15 species
with causal glances from the windows and many more with more
concentrated viewing.  I now have 4-8 siskins, maybe 4 goldfinch and
maybe that many purple/house finches, a couple of juncos, an occasional
towhee and a song sparrow and the omnipresent Stellars (5-6).  Haven't
seen a flicker in a week or so and they have always been here. Oh,
morning and collared doves do hang about as do the 4 or so Anna's.
Generally, it is almost spookily quiet.
