Subject: [Tweeters] WOS Monthly Meeting: Monday, Oct 5, 2020
Date: Fri Sep 25 08:36:08 PDT 2020
From: Elaine Chuang - elc at u.washington.edu

Hello, Tweets!

Join us on Oct 5 for a distinctly different birding getaway: WOS' next Monthly Meeting will take a virtual trip … North, and back in time.

"Things I Learned Birding for 31 years with Tom Briggs: A Man I Never Met" ... David Fraser

David Fraser is a biologist, birder and sketcher who set off on a journey 31 years ago when a dedicated but unknown birder's notes came into his possession. These near daily bird observations which commenced in 1959 have proved to be key mileposts for recognizing changes in the avifauna of Vancouver Island, where breeding records of Horned Larks, Western Bluebirds and others are now rare or no longer found. In his presentation, Fraser demonstrates how the entry of historic records such as these into eBird, can contribute data on significant changes in birdlife. His presentation is enriched with his own sketches, helping to document the species and behaviors observed.
