Today there was a Heermann's Gulls among the many gulls waiting for handouts in the parking lot north of the boat launch (in between Shilshole Marina and Golden Garden Park, Eddie Vine Boat Ramp, 8001 Seaview Ave NW, Seattle, WA 98117)

It's in "textbook" second-winter dark brown plumage with the black-tipped red bill and black legs.

Not that early-December is that far from the normal time of year we can expect this species here, but it's tameness (takes bread, chips, and other assorted snacks people toss out their parked car window), makes for a nice photo op.

Cheers,
Martin Muller, Seattle
