"Snowy owls are declining on the north slope of Alaska. The ecosystem is shifting and, as I was informed, the typical cycles of predator/prey (snowy owls and lemmings) is not longer happening. I remember seeing many snow owls and many successful nests when I worked up there surveying waterbirds in the early 1980s. "

Where are Alaska's snowy owls?

The birds serve as an alarm bell for the repercussions of environmental change.
