Subject: [Tweeters] Turtle Doves being wiped out

Our attitude towards gambier management is a tad warped. In an old book I have, on CA Gamebirds I believe, the authors note that Band-tailed Pigeon, annually lay two eggs and yet had a daily limit of multiple birds. Deer, with the same annual reproductive output, had a one per year. More thought is necessary.

> Turtle Doves along the Mediterranean have been declining steeply and have been upgraded to Globally Threatened by the International Union for the Conservation of Nature. At the same time, the Italians have granted licenses to shoot up to 7.5 million, out of a population estimated to be between 3 and 11 million on the continent.
