I highly recommend this recent webinar by Lance Benner about strange owl
calls, sounds that may sound like owls (e.g. chipmunks, solitaires, quail,
etc), and other owl vocal habits.

It was sponsored by LA Birders and is focused on southern Calif mountains,
but most of the species occur up here.

On a related note, I'm still seeking feedback on a strange call I recorded
on a summer morning east of Snoqualmie Pass nearly three years ago. It's at
https://www.xeno-canto.org/490943. Even Lance didn't know what it was.

thanks,
