All,

Thursday, March 31, I watched a Bald Eagle attack and kill a Great Blue
Heron at Theler Wetlands. It began in the air and moved to the river
when the heron dove for the water, going completely under. The eagle
landed in the water some yards away, then flew into the heron, killing
or incapacitating it in less than 2 seconds. I was amazed at how
effortless it all seemed. There was more drama when a juvenile Bald
Eagle tried to claim the heron, but was driven off by the mate of the
first eagle.

I've put together an album showing the action from start to finish.
These are heavy crops, but you can get a sense of the action:

I wrote a running commentary in the caption of each photo trying to give
a sense of what was happening.
