The primary use of an estuarial wetland is during the conversion from wholly freshwater (juvenile stage) to marine. Normally, in the spring, the juvenile salmonids leave FW and head to salt. In an estuary they can develop saltwater tolerance over days/weeks. Further, they can feed there and grow with larger size benefitting them in escaping predators.
