I was surprised to see and hear a Merlin calling loudly and flying overhead around 10 am this morning. Sighting was near the intersection of W. Smith St. and W McGraw, about a block north of Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. The bird flew out of the top of a tall conifer and directly overhead, calling the whole time.

Merlin sightings at the cemetery are not unusual in winter to my experience but I don't think I've ever seen one around here in summer.
