Watch this 10s video to see a Red-breasted Sapsucker work on the
maintenance and drinking from its wells. Watch again and notice the various
stages of well on the trunks to the rights.

I've only seen the small holes drilled in trees before and never the larger
fresh wells being worked on like this. One or two frequented these trees
before flying off to a possible nesting site at a topped cottonwood tree
that had multiple holes near the top.
