I put fresh hummer water out this morning, and it froze solid within half an hour. I brought it back inside and thawed it out, put it back out, and there was a hummer there within minutes. She had a long drink, then flew off!

I noticed two Juncos at the rim of our frozen bird bath. So I took a pot of boiling water and poured it on the ice. Not all of the ice melted, but there was then a layer of water on top of the ice that was comfortable to my touch. I went back in the house and noticed that immediately there were 3 Juncos drinking from the bird bath and a Towhee nearby.
