Happy International Vulture Awareness Day! Be sure to look up today, you never know what you might see flying majestically overhead. Used to be a fun day at the zoo with Modoc doing his vulture stunts. Anyway, onto the August report for Washington plus a couple of earlier ones. This month is without e-bird, just Tweeters' reports. Thanks so much for your great observations. Enjoy vulture day! And, remember, September is the big month for vulture migration and big numbers sometimes appear - fun to see lots of them together.

05 -- One turkey vulture flying over, 2 miles south of College Place, Walla Walla County.

14 -- One turkey vulture circled Goodhope Pond in Pine Ridge Park, Edmonds, several times.

05 -- Two flying over the freeway at Elma plus two flying over Tokeland a bit later.

08 -- Two turkey vultures in Anacortes at 5 pm. They were diving very low over houses and did not lift upward.

12 -- One over Semiahmoo Spit at 08:48.

13 -- Five circling over Roy plus there has been at least one around since 14 May; two soaring around from eastbound on SR 104, west of the Hood Canal Bridge; one over Hwy.2, west of Monroe.

16 -- One over the Joint Base Lewis McChord (JBLM) Eagle's Pride Golf Course; 11 turkey vultures over Belfair, a few at a time until the sky was full of them, circling and drifting off to the south.

18 -- Two at NW Lower River Road pool, Clark County; two low over business stores in Anacortes, ca. 2 pm.

22 -- 2 turkey vultures near Channel Drive (Swinomish Channel, Skagit County), at 2:15; two over the freeway just west of Ellensburg and 2 over the freeway at Cle Elum.

23 -- One at the south end of Lopez Island seen from the boat after Smith Island trip.

24 -- One ripping through, heading south, at about 4 pm at the Grandview Cemetery in Anacortes; one over Rosario Head, Skagit County.

25 -- One turkey vulture over Bridgeport, Douglas County.

27 -- One circling quite low over the Snohomish Gold Course.

29 -- One turkey vulture over Redmond near Union Hill Road; one flying over Obstruction Island ca. 3pm.

30 -- One over Dutch Hill, northeast of Snohomish, heading south; five turkey vultures hanging around Larch Mountain in Clark County.
