Hi Tweeters,

Long time user here back from my undergraduate days in Environmental Science and my Masters with crow expert John Marzluff. Now I’m a PhD student (studying urban bird populations at UBC-Vancouver) and bird friendly coffee roaster based out of Everett.

I’m trying to get the word out to local birders that drink coffee about Big Year Coffee, my small business that sells Smithsonian Bird Friendly Coffee (and chocolate). If you don’t know what that means, it’s shade grown, organic coffee that requires native trees and canopy layers on coffee farms, which in turn protect birds. The certificate is run by the Smithsonian migratory bird center and supports research on birds, and which trees are best for biodiversity as well.

I only roast single origin Bird Friendly Coffee and have been perfecting roasting these beans for over 3 years. It’s only available online currently or find me at local birding festivals like wings over water (Blaine, March) and hopefully Grays Harbor shorebird festival (April).
